We are a diverse group of students across three Weehawken schools working to end food insecurity. We support our local shelter, Palisades Emergency Residence Corporation, through baking, cooking, serving meals, making and sharing art, celebrating holidays, building a community garden and much, much more.
We started our community connection with PERC in 2021 when Kale, at age 12, raised over $7,000 for the local food bank for his mitzvah project. Asher followed two years later by raising over $7,000 himself and creating an outdoor garden space for the PERC residents. Soon after, our Weehawken schools collaboration began, and in the past three years we have successfully run food drives; baked, cooked and delivered meals; built and planted a garden; created holiday centerpieces; and served pizza parties and homemade desserts for PERC residents. This year we will host Weehawken's first 5K walk/run to end food insecurity.
We believe that Food is a Human Right, and that everyone deserves access to healthy food. We also believe that if you are hungry, it is harder to feel well and to be well, and so we are working to end food insecurity in Hudson county and we are also working to empower other communities to join our fight.
