What is food insecurity?

Food insecurity means not having reliable access to enough affordable, nutritious food to live an active, healthy life. It includes situations where people may skip meals, eat low-quality food, or constantly worry about where their next meal will come from due to financial or other constraints.

13.5%

of U.S. households have faced food insecurity. Within this 13.5% of people, 5.1% faced more severe food insecurity where food intake was severely reduced or food was entirely unavailable. (USDA report)

47 million people

faced food insecurity in the United States last year (USDA report).
